When Louis was three,路易斯三岁的时候,
he tried to use his father's awl.玩爸爸的锥子.

There were no buses or cars.既没有公共汽车也没有小汽车,
And there were no doctors nearby.而且附近还没有医生.

Louis and his father went to Paris.路易斯跟他的爸爸去了巴黎.
They traveled all day.他们走了一整天.

The doctor shone a light in Louis' eyes.医生在路易斯的眼睛上用光闪.
Louis did not blink.路易斯没有眨眼.

Louis and his father went home.路易斯和他的爸爸回了家.
But Louis still couldn't see但他依旧什么都看不到
At first,Louis went to the village school.一开始,路易斯去村里的学校上学.
He was blind.他失明了.
Louis will never read or write.路易斯将不能读书和写字了.
He was a very good student.他是个好学生.
He can't write,他不能写字,
but he remembers everything!但是他记得每件事情.
When he was ten,十岁的时候,
Louis went to a school for blind children in
Paris.
I want to go to a special school for blind
children.
Louis could read the alphabet with his fingers.路易斯用他手指学习字母.
But he wanted to read more quickly.但是他想读得更快一些.
I can feel the letter "d".我能摸到字母D.
But it's very slow.但是很慢.
So Louis invented an alphabet for the blind.路易斯为盲人研究出了一个字母.
He made dots for each letter on a piece of paper他在纸上为每一个字母做了圆洞.
These six dots are the letter "d".这六个圆洞就是字母D.
A man came and read books to Louis.一个人读书给路易斯听.
Louis then wrote the books in the new alphabet.路易斯就用新的字母表写了这本书.
Now I can read and write!现在我可以读书和写字了
Louis died when he was only 42.路易斯42岁的时候去世了.
But soon blind people all over the world could
read and write.
We will call this new alphabet "Braille."我会把这种新的字母叫做"盲人用点字法."
